Kerry Vera Set for Bellator Debut

May 7, 2009
(PRESS RELEASE) -- A new kind of fight family is taking shape in the world of professional mixed martial arts. Kerry Vera, wife of UFC Light Heavyweight star Brandon Vera, is preparing to make her professional MMA debut with Bellator Fighting Championships, which airs nationally on ESPN Deportes.

While familial relations are nothing new to the sport of MMA (as proven by the Gracie family), the Vera’s are preparing to make an unusual twist. The husband and wife duo will become one the few competitive couples fighting on nationally televised events when Kerry steps into the cage at Bellator VII on May 15th in Chicago.

The 27-year-old is preparing to enter the fighting family business when she meets Leslie Smith in a 135 lb special feature bout at Bellator VII. Reinforced by a kickboxing record of 2-1, Kerry is hoping to thrill the crowd at the Aragon Entertainment Center in the same manner that her husband has on so many occasions in the past.

Brandon will also be at Bellator’s event, serving in his wife’s corner as she kicks off her professional MMA fighting career. Kerry has been trained in the sport for over 6 years and is eager to showcase her skills.
