Sep 6, 2011 Comments
(PRESS RELEASE) -- Hard hitting Bellator veteran Brett “Fudoshin”
Cooper (13-7) will entertain MMA fans in Florida when he fights
Valdir
Araujo (8-2) at Bellator 50 at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel &
Casino. On September 17, Cooper is confident that he will defeat
the Florida native and show why he is one of the top Middleweights
on Bellator’s roster.
“I’m ready to get back in the cage,” said Cooper who currently trains at Reign Training Center. “I just want to go in there and fight hard. Return home with the win.”
Cooper made his last appearance inside the Bellator cage at the
promotions 44th installment back in May of this year against a top
contender in Alexander
Shlemenko (40-5). Although he sustained multiple injuries
leading up to the fight, Brett fought a tough 15 minute-3-round
battle that resulted in a unanimous decision loss. The fight ended
in Shlemenko’s favor as the Russian landed multiple spinning
back-fists, none of which causing any major damage, but outpointing
Cooper on the feet. Towards the end of the fight, Cooper recalls
ditching his game plan and throwing everything he had at Shlemenko,
including the kitchen sink.
“My corner man Vince Ortiz told me to abandon the gameplan and to take him down as he could see how tired I was. So the gameplan changed to just going for the knockout".
Prior to fighting Shlemenko, Fudoshin acquired the Lord of the Cage Middleweight Championship by knocking out Keith “KO Kid” Berry (10-6) in 10 seconds of the first round. At the sound of the bell Berry got in Brett’s face, landed a strike on the Long Beach native before eating a massive power punch thrown by Cooper. Berry fell to the ground and Brett followed, delivering an arsenal of ground-and-pound before the referee called a halt to the bout.
The 24 year-old Cooper, who trains out of Reign Training Center with a plethora of elite fighters such as Mark Munoz, has won 9 of his past 12 bouts including knockout victories over former UFC fighter Jason Von Flue, UFC veteran Rory Markham, Patrick Speight at Affliction and Brazilian standout Sergio Moraes.
Bellator Fighting Championships 50th event will take place on September 17, 2011, and emanate from the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida.
