KRAV MAGA™ FIGHTS CANCER FUNDRAISING SEMINAR TO HONOR INSPIRATIONAL LEADER

Self Defense Training Centers Nationwide Team Up With STOP CANCER to Fund Cancer Research in Memory of Marni Elise Levine (1969-2006)

“What greater gift can life bestow than to be able to say that we believe in our fellow man, and that we dare to accomplish a few things to help make the world a better place?”
-Dr. Armand Hammer

On Saturday, October 21, 2006 at 10:00 am, Valley Fight Club will be teaming up with Krav Maga Official Training Centers across and around the world and with the non-profit philanthropic organization STOP CANCER for the first annual Krav Maga™ Fights Cancer Fundraiser. All proceeds from the Krav Maga Fights Cancer Fundraising Seminar will be donated directly to STOP CANCER in Memory of Marni Levine (1969-2006) who died of complications due to cancer. The cost is 49.00 per person, all tax deductible.

Krav Maga Worldwide began Krav Maga Fights Cancer Fundraiser in honor of Marni Levine. Marni, one of the founders of the multi-national organization, passed away on August 31, 2006, after a long and courageous fight against cancer, leaving behind a loving husband and two young daughters, ages 9 and 11.

Krav Maga (“krahv muh-gah”) is the official defensive tactics system of the Israeli military. Marni was one of the four founders of Krav Maga Worldwide, Inc., which teaches civilians, soldiers, and police officers around the world.

“Marni was an inspiration,” says Michael Margolin, himself a high-ranking Krav Maga instructor. “She was a 4th degree black belt and the highest-ranking female instructor in the world.”

“She was this little girl,” says Richard Grillat, a Krav Maga Military Force Training Instructor who recently returned from service in Iraq, “but she could teach a room full of soldiers with no problem. She was a great fighter.”

Marni fought breast cancer for five years.

MARNI’S LIFE AND DEATH INSPIRE COLLEAGUES

Marni’s death has triggered a reaction in the worldwide community of Krav Maga instructors. Martial arts school owners in the United States, Canada, Japan, and Europe have organized a global fundraiser: on Saturday, October 21, every school is hosting a self defense seminar and donating 100% of the proceeds to the cancer research foundation Stop Cancer.

Stop Cancer was created to meet the need for cancer research funding, and Krav Maga is joining the fight to “help make the world a better place” by increasing personal safety in our communities and stopping cancer. The goal is to raise more than $50,000 for cancer research at National Cancer Institute—designated comprehensive cancer centers. These funds will be matched by receiving hospitals with an impact of $100,000 toward cancer research.

Chief Instructor, D. Womack, along with Krav Maga Instructors Monique Sandoval-Morales and Larry Moore, will be teaching a 4 hour Krav Maga self defense seminar at, Valley Fight Club, 700 E. 7th Street, Hanford, Ca. 93230. The seminar begins at 10:00 a.m. and will end by 2:00 p.m.. D. Womack’s father passed away from lung cancer in 1998. Seminar registration is open to people of all ages, all -more- abilities, members and non-members, and law enforcement and will include self defense against the most common street attacks. STOP CANCER

STOP CANCER is a non-profit, philanthropic organization dedicated to helping find a cure for cancer by funding cancer research at National Cancer Institute—designated comprehensive cancer centers. The focus of the organization is to provide grants to scientists who are engaged in innovative cancer research and its subsequent clinical applications.

Philanthropist, entrepreneur, corporate executive, art collector, medical doctor, citizen-diplomat, friend of heads-of-state, world traveler and visionary—Dr. Armand Hammer, chairman and founder of Occidental Petroleum Corporation was all of these and more.

As Chairman of President Ronald Reagan’s Cancer Panel for 8 years, Dr. Hammer learned that the preponderance of requests for cancer research grants were unfilled at the National Cancer Institute (NCI) due to lack of funds. Consequently, in 1988 in partnership with Sherry Lansing, former Chairman of Paramount Pictures, he founded the non-profit, volunteer, nationally focused campaign STOP CANCER, dedicated to funding cancer research.

Following Armand Hammer’s passing, STOP CANCER was reorganized in 1991 with Sherry Lansing as Chair and Arlene and David Ray as Founding Presidents to fund Research Career Development Awards and Seed Grants for selected young scientists at Los Angeles County’s three Comprehensive Cancer Centers, UCLA’s Jonsson, USC’s Norris and the City of Hope Center.

Dr. Hammer would be proud of the accomplishments of STOP CANCER and its hardworking volunteer members and staff who have raised since 1988, including the original STOP CANCER campaign funds, over $42 million for cancer research. The dedication, the enthusiasm and the perseverance that Armand Hammer brought to the mission of STOP CANCER inspire today’s indomitable volunteers to help fulfill his dream of a cure for cancer in our lifetime—if not in his.
