Local Muay Thai Event to Promote Awareness for Foster Children
(PRESS RELEASE) -- Muay Thai kickboxers from around the state will
be competing on Saturday, July 11, 2009 for a greater purpose than
the sport alone. They will be “fighting for children” at Master
Mehrdad’s Muay Thai Classic to help bring awareness to foster
children awaiting adoption in an effort to support the nonprofit
organization “Fighting For Children, Inc.”
Proceeds from the event will benefit Fighting For Children to help fund a short video documentary about three siblings who have been separated in the child welfare system who hope to be adopted as a family unit.. The goal is for Fighting For Children to bring awareness to these children, and others, among the community. Master Mehrdad’s Muay Thai Classic is held twice a year to promote the sport of Muay Thai and allow amateur athletes from various schools to build their records. The sport of Muay Thai goes back hundreds of years and originated in Thailand. The honor, respect and tradition that is integral to this sport reflects the most honorable traditions of martial arts. The idea is to train humble, respectful, and honorable individuals who display a great deal of discipline and dignity. These athletes are role models for our youth, and as they prepare for the competition, will also be providing a voice for children.
