Love of the sport
Jun 28, 2010
(PRESS RELEASE) -- At 17 years old, Clayton Maxfield had a clear
vision: take a passion and turn it into a business. A longtime fan
of MMA, his journey began with training to be a cage fighter. Drawn
to the intense physicality and concentration required, Maxfield
gained great respect for the sport. He then decided to turn his
obsession into a business, and New Blood Fight Gear, an MMA
clothing company, was born.
Maxfield believes MMA is moving into the mainstream. “We’re seeing it everywhere, from references in film to toys at Target,” says Maxfield. “The sport is huge, but relatively speaking it’s still in its infancy. The possibilities are limitless.” An article in the Harvard Law Record asserts that, “Today, MMA has moved beyond the early “blood sport” image and is a legitimate, and very exciting sport with highly conditioned and well-trained athletes who are amazingly skilled martial artists.”
Maxfield has designed MMA fighting gear that appeals to a large
audience. His vision is to bring high quality clothing with
unexpected design, to the visionary athletes and enthusiasts who
have made the sport so great. Branding is based on the legend of
the Native American Thunderbird — a symbol of strength and power
— and is a nod to the mainstream direction the sport is headed.
MMA fighter Anthony Gomez is featured on the New Blood website and
is the personification of how Maxfield views the sport: bright,
extreme athletes, who are role models for their fans.
For Maxfield, who has been involved in various business ventures since he was a pre-teen, New Blood is the culmination of experience combined with passion. This fall, he’s likely to be one of the few freshman at college who is operating his own business, making him a unique breed, much like his clothing line.
