MEZ Sports Returns to Los Angeles

(PRESS RELEASE) -- After promoting eight fight cards throughout Southern California in 2008 and 2009, MEZ Sports is proud to present its 2010 Thursday Night Fight Series with its inaugural fight of the Series, Smackdown at the Shrine Powered by Pit Bull Energy Drinks on March 4, 2010 at the historic Shrine Exhibition Hall in downtown Los Angeles, California.

In 2010, aside from Pit Bull Energy Drinks becoming the Presenting Sponsor for the 2010 Fight Series, MEZ Sports has made an exciting new change to the fight card. This year, all fights will be hybrid card featuring both professional boxing and MMA fights on the same night. The new hybrid cards will clearly continue MEZ Sports’ tradition of providing the finest night of professional fighting in Southern California.

March 4, 2010’s SmackDown at the Shrine Powered by PitBull Energy Drinks will feature 5 professional boxing matches and 8 MMA fights, providing a truly full night of fight entertainment for Southern California. Headlining the MMA cards are co-main events featuring 4 of the most exciting lightweights in Southern California with Aaron “Bloodspiller” Miller taking on Corey “Savage” Grant and Nick “the Italian Stallion” Reale meeting M-1 veteran Steve Magdaleno.

Miller, fighting out of Orange County, California, is 9-6 and is a well-tested veteran who never backs down from a challenge. Grant (3-1), who trains with Team Quest in Murrieta, CA, last fought Japanese MMA legend Rumina Sato and is a well-decorated college wrestling champion, including earning All-American honors while in college. Between Miller’s strong stand-up style and Grant’s outstanding wrestling background, this fight will test both fighters’ limits.

MMA Co-main event find two rugged brawlers tangling when Orange County resident, South Coast Fight Team member, and Gladiator Challenge stalwart, Reale (6-2) steps into the ring against Magdaleno (6-1). Magdaleno, who trains out of UFC’s Vladimir Matyushenko’s gym, VMAT, is looking to return to his winning ways after suffering his first pro defeat in the M-1 Global Challenge while Reale wants to show that he can fight with the best of them. Reale wants to win this fight and challenge for the MEZ Sports Lightweight Title in the near future.

Not to be outdone by MMA fighters, the boxing portion of the night will be headlined by the return to the right of Ernesto Zavala, who is fighting an 8 round welterweight fight against Oregon’s Jason Davis. Zavala, (20-4, 8Kos) currently trains with Freddie Roach at Roach’s Hollywood Wild Card Boxing Gym, is making his return to the ring after a five year layoff. With Freddie Roach in his corner, Zavala meets, Davis (11-5-1, 3Kos). Davis’ last 4 opponents were, Joel Cassamayor, Mauricio Herrera, Steve Forbes, and Derrick Samuels. Combined these 4 boxing greats have a record of 95-12-2, yet Davis managed to provide each of them with a major challenge. This fight should truly test two strong boxers.

Highlighting the night is the Los Angeles return of hometown heavyweight title contender, Damian “Bolo” Wills. Wills (26-2-1, 20KO’s). Wills will meet tough Texan Billy “The Kid” Willis. Willis, who has only been stopped twice in a 30 plus fight professional career promises to provide a strong challenger for Wills return to his hometown. Wills is out to prove that he is back on the road to a championship belt.

Smackdown at the Shrine Powered by Pit Bill Energy Drink is expected to bring numerous legendary fighters and entertainment stars including Former Middleweight, Super Middleweight, and Cruiserweight Boxing Champion James “Lights Out” Toney and Television star Mario Lopez. Lopez, who current hosts American Best Dance Crew on MTV and finished second on the third season of Dancing With The Stars, is a huge boxing fan who frequently serves as a commentator on Top Rank boxing broadcasts.

After the fights, attendees are invited to attend the Spearmint Rhino Gentlemen’s Club in downtown Los Angeles as their ticket stub will allow free admission to the club that night.
