Miriam Nakamoto Becomes the First American Woman to Win WBC MuayThai World Title

(PRESS RELEASE) -- Haikou City of Hainan Island, China played host to unprecedented full rules muay thai championship event on August 21,2010 in celebration of 20th anniversary of Muay Thai promotion by Dennis Warner and In Sync Productions. Fighters from China, Mexico, United States, Japan, Australia, Luxembourg and Thailand showcased their skills in this government-sanctioned and supported event in China’s preeminent resort destination, Hainan Island. The 5000 people-seat arena was reported to be sold-out.

The championship featured two WBC Muaythai World Championship Title Bouts: WBC MuayThai Lightweight World Title Fight between Hiromasa Masuda (Japan) and Jaroenchai Ood-donmuang (Thailand), and WBC MuayThai Women’s Lightweight World Title fight between Claire Haigh (Luxembourg) and Miriam Nakamoto (USA). Current WBC MuayThai Light Heavyweight World champion, Kaoklai Kaennorsing and six-time world champion Manu Ntoh performed as the main event of the night and in the frame of WCK Champion of Champions title bout.

Miriam Nakamoto stole the show, as the won against Claire Haigh via TKO in the first round and became the first American woman to hold the WBC MuayThai World title. A flying left knee and three sequential right elbows brought home the victory for Nakamoto.

The show was broadcast live on HD in China and will be available to WCK's worldwide syndication network later this year. WCK MuayThai founder and CEO, Dennis Warner was present at this event, which honored the accomplishments and contributions of Mr. Warner’s promotion organization to the professional martial arts industry. He was joined by high ranking WBC Muaythai officials, including WBC Muaythai dignitaries - Vice Chairman Tony Reyes from the Philippines and Anek Hongtongkam, head of officials from Thailand。

WCK Full Rules Muaythai plans to have this region as its centerpiece for future events in Asia. Located in The South China Sea, Hainan Island is a premier entertainment and sporting destination for tourists from all over the world. With its tropical beaches and lush forests, Hainan Island is quickly becoming the next hot tourism attraction.
