Mixed Martial Arts To Make Pit Debut In August

(PRESS RELEASE) -- The world’s fasting growing sport will make its first appearance inside New Mexico’s most recognizable sporting venue when MMA Fight Pit presents Genesis at The Pit on Saturday, August 13. Genesis will include five fights that will be distributed nationally on pay per view by MultiVision Media and five undercard bouts.

The main event will feature a pair of UFC vets as knockout artist Houston “The Assassin” Alexander takes on Razak “Razor” Al-Hassan in a light heavyweight tilt. In the night’s co-main event, Albuquerque’s own Coty “Ox” Wheeler will lock horns with UFC and WEC legend Jens “Lil Evil” Pulver.

Tickets go on sale Thursday, June 30 at 8 a.m. MT and can be bought at the UNM ticket office at The Pit, online at unmtickets.com or at any Alberston’s location.

“MMA Fight Pit is excited to bring a new level of MMA to fans in New Mexico,” said co-promoter and MMA Fight Pit co-founder Torry Crooks. “Our decision to take this leap was based on more than our passion for the sport. It really equated to a mandate from the masses. The MMA community here realizes that we have the best fighters in the world and they’re eager to see them display their skills on a grander stage.”

Crooks said The Pit is a perfect fit for the event.

“Having a larger venue allowed us to pursue national level talent, which gives local fighters an opportunity to escalate their careers and allows local fans to see a show unlike anything they’ve seen before,” he said. “We have the best fans and the best fighters in the world right here in our own backyard.”

Genesis will feature one televised female fight as “South Valley’s Own” Angelica Chavez (4-0) puts her undefeated record on the line as she mixes it up with Diana “Dynamite” Rael in a 105-pound tilt.

The final two fights on the televised portion of the card pit “The Ultimate Fighter” vet Junie Browning vs. Jackson’s MMA fighter Lenny “The Godfather” Lovato at 155 pounds. 185 pound TUF season 11 vet Jamie Yager (3-2) takes on undefeated Jackson’s MMA fighter “Slick” Willie Parks (3-0).

In undercard action, Jackson’s MMA fighter Conrad Padilla (2-0) will square off against Guy Youell (1-2) from Team Four Corners in Farmington, N.M at 145 pounds.

Seasoned vet and Jacskson’s MMA Fighter Travis “T-Train” Marks (16-2) will take on undefeated Jason Sampson in a 135-pound fight. Jackson’s MMA fighter Clint Roberts (1-1) will take on undefeated Sean Spencer (6-0) at 170 pounds.

In the night’s only heavyweight fight, Albuquerque and F.I.T. NHB fighter Tyler East (8-3) will face 14-year MMA vet Chris Guillen (13-12).

To get things started Rocky “The Angry Aztec” Rameriz (3-1-1) will battle Mark Lujan, who will be making his professional debut in a middleweight fight.
