Olivier: I want the result to be down to me no one else
Jul 7, 2011
(PRESS RELEASE) -- WFC 2 is only a few days away, on July 9th from
Grundy Park in Cheshunt, and the countdown continues with the
latest in a line of exclusive interviews.
Featherweight Robbie Olivier is no stranger to wearing championship gold.
The dynamic wrestler was Cage Rage's featherweight figurehead for a
number of years in the UK but, this weekend, he'll have a chance to
take home another championship belt.
All that stands in his way is the gritty veteran Antanas Jazbutis, no stranger to tough fights himself, as the two are set to collide at WFC 2.
Thanks for taking the time Rob it's much appreciated. How has your training gone for your upcoming featherweight title bout with Antanas Jazbutis?
Fantastic, the team have done a great job getting me ready, I feel that I have put in the work to perform to my best!
Do you think that your championship experience and pedigree will prove to be an advantage in this bout?
Of course experience is an advantage, as to pedigree, I think Antanas is a tough guy that has had some good wins and fought some decent opponents, so we will have to see how we match up! He is with a good team so I'm sure they have prepared him well.
Antanas has been in the cage with some very tough guys and has shown amazing durability. Do you think you have the game to finish him?
Well I want to push for a finish, I have the gas to keep a high tempo till the end, but my aim is not to leave it to the judges. I want the result to be down to me no one else.
Your career has been littered with championship calibur opponents. How far away do you feel you are from a shot on a more international stage?
I believe that I can compete now at international level, but I also know that I need to get some wins back at featherweight for that to happen.
Where do you think you'll have the biggest advantage in this fight?
I actually think its a really close match, but I believe I am just that bit better in each range, except kicks I guess. I'm confident that I have the all round edge, but I'm sure he is going to make it hard for me everywhere.
This is your first fight since you met Michael Pastou at UCMMA. What are your recollections of that fight?
I was very happy with how that fight was going, I never felt threatened during the fight, I knew I needed to weather the storm, and in the second round I started to take it away from him with my stand up, which I don't think was expected. Then came the "fan riot" and the fight was stopped, Mikey is a nice guy, but he knows he dodged a bullet that night!
If you could fight anyone next who would your choice be?
That all depends on how this fight goes, I need to pressure test myself to see what's next! I just want to be challenged in different ways, and take advice from my team! To get back to the top in Europe and the next level.
Thanks very much and the best of luck. Is there anyone you'd like to thank/say hello to at this time?
No worries, keep up the good work! The team at Pro-Am Fight Centre / Tsunami have been great, QNT for sponsoring us and helping with our nutritional needs, and of course my family, that put up with me juggling life work balance leading up to this bout! Thank you all very much!
