Pamplona faces Johnny Davis in main event at UCB “Stars and Stripes”

(PRESS RELEASE) -- Ultimate Cage Battles, in conjunction with promoter Dan Bobish, is proud to announce the main event of April 9’s “Stars and Stripes” event in Parma, Ohio, will feature devastating Brazilian Muay Thai striker Eduardo Pamplona (fighting out of Sao Paulo, Brazil / 13-2; 3 KO, 2 sub) taking on Illinois’ Joe Bunch (fighting out of Granite City, IL / 12-3; 4 KO, 3 sub) in a 178-pound catchweight bout.

Pamplona, who trains at the world-renowned Black House gym in California, is currently riding an eight-fight win streak. A veteran of M-1 Global, IFL, Shooto, and Pancrase, this world-traveled fighter is known as one of the most aggressive and ruthless fighters in the sport. Pamplona most recently earned a unanimous decision over Edilberto de Oliveira at Jungle Fight 22 last September and hasn’t dropped a fight since losing to Robbie Lawler in 2007. Now training with MMA legends like Anderson Silva, Lyoto Machida, Jose Aldo and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, Pamplona is ready to take the next step in his MMA career.

“We promised that we were going to bring the best fighters in the world to Northeast Ohio,” said UCB owner Dan Bobish. “Having Wanderlei Silva doing a seminar and a talent like Pamplona in the Midwest, I don’t think that anybody can match what we are doing in the Midwest.”

Bunch, who trains with UFC Hall of Famer Matt Hughes at The H.I.T. Squad in Granite City, Illinois, is a five-year veteran who is equally dangerous with his striking and grappling abilities. Currently riding a two-fight winning streak including four wins in his last five outings, Bunch has faced notables Gerald Harris, C.B. Dollaway, and Cleburn Walker and owns victories over Strikeforce veteran Levi Avera and Bellator veteran Tyler Stinson.

“Bunch is a tough kid,” said Bobish. “He’s a really strong fighter and he is dangerous anywhere the fight goes. Now he’s training with Matt Hughes and the guys at H.I.T. Squad, which should take his game to the next level. This will be an electrifying fight.”

In addition to Pamplona, Black House prospect Justin “The American Kid” Lawrence (fighting out of Pacific, MO / 1-0) will be in action on the pro portion of the card. A six-time Golden Gloves champion, two-time Diamond Gloves champion, and a former all-state wrestler, Lawrence made his pro debut in Strikeforce in December and earned a decision victory over pro boxer Max Martyniouk.

“Ultimate Cage Battles: Stars and Stripes” is set for April 9, 2011 at Ohio Nets Sports Complex in Parma, Ohio. Tickets for the event, which start at $20, are on sale now at www.UltimateCageBattles.com. Prior to the fights on the evening of April 9, MMA legend Wanderlei Silva will also be in the Ohio Nets Sports Complex for the UCB Champions Seminar Series.
