Reedy signs five-fight deal with PureCombat

(PRESS RELEASE) -- There are several mixed martial arts promotions putting on shows around the Central Valley.

But there is one common reason why fighters are choosing to sign multi-fight deals with PureCombat.

“They seem to be one of the more stable organizations around,” said Clovis fighter John Reedy.

Reedy is one of the fighters who will call PureCombat home after signing a six-fight deal with the promotion.

“Like I said, PureCombat is stable and isn’t going anywhere,” Reedy said about signing with PureCombat. “Plus, I know [PureCombat president] Al Joslin very well and I consider him a friend.”

Reedy, who trains with Team Buhawe, will fight on PureCombat’s “Fearless” card Oct. 17 at the International Agri-Center in Tulare, Calif.

Reedy (8-3) will fight Rodney Rhoden (5-5) in a 155-pound bout.

Rhoden will be desperate for a victory in his PureCombat debut as he is on a two-fight losing streak.

Reedy will look to use his wrestling skills to help him defeat Rhoden.

“I’m definitely a wrestler, but I don’t like to rely on just that,” said Reedy about what his gameplan might be. “I like to think that I’m a well-rounded fighter. I have a good mix of wrestling and Muy Thai.”

Reedy has been on fire lately, winning six consecutive fights. His last loss was against Brian Cobb, who has since then made his way into the UFC, on Aug. 27, 2007.

In fact, all three of Reedy’s losses have come against Cobb, which is something that Reedy isn’t happy about.

“It is very annoying that he has my number,” said Reedy “He’s a very good fighter but it is frustrating that I haven’t beat him.”

While Cobb may have gotten the best of Reedy, nobody else has been able to touch the fast-rising star.

In his two previous fights with PureCombat, Reedy has wins over Dominique Robinson and Preston Scharf.

And since the birth of his 9-month old daughter, Reedy has had a different form of motivation to keep him going in the sport.

“I would definitely like to make some money and fight for a long time,” said Reedy about his longterm goals. “I’d like for everything I’ve been through to be worth it, all the long hours of training and dedication.”

Training is something Reedy says is not easy, but having a family keeps him hungry to train.

“Training is not easy,” said Reedy who also has a job away from MMA. “It is hard to stay motivated. It is easy to skip practice, but that’ll show when you step in the cage. It is my job and I take that mentality into the sport.”

And after signing his six-fight deal with PureCombat, Reedy will be able to perform his job close to home and in front of his family.

“It is nice to fight close to home,” Reedy said. “It is nice to have my family there. It helps put my mind at ease.”
