Round 5: Knockout Cancer for Candelighter Kids THIS FRIDAY at Texas Station!

(PRESS RELEASE) -- LAS VEGAS – The five-day countdown to Knockout Cancer for Candlelighters Kids begins today as the fifth annual fundraiser that raises funds for children with cancer takes place this Friday, October 3 live from Texas Station in Las Vegas.

Now in its fifth year, “Round 5: Knockout Cancer for Candlelighters Kids” is an annual Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) and Boxing event that was created to help raise funds and awareness for Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation of Nevada. This year’s event will be held at the Texas Station. Doors open at 5:45 p.m; first bout starts at 7:00 p.m. PT.

This exciting, action-packed charity event features a night of amazing fights and a fabulous charity raffle. New to the event is the expansion of kickboxing and jiu jitsu. This marks the third year in a row that the local Las Vegas Tuff-N-Uff organization will present MMA bouts as part of the Knockout Cancer event. There will be something for everyone with three MMA bouts, three boxing bouts, three kickboxing bouts and three jiu jitsu bouts.

Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation of Nevada provides necessary support and services for local families of children diagnosed with cancer, having helped several thousands of children in our community since the organization was founded in 1978. Candlelighters serves approximately 100 families monthly, and as many as 300 families throughout the year and funds raised by events such as Knockout Cancer, help the organization provide much needed services.

Knockout Cancer continues to build on its efforts to raise more money and help more children. The event has raised over $100,000 since its first year and with help of their generous sponsors and donations, the event returns this October 3rd at the Texas Station for its biggest year to date. ABOUT KNOCKOUT CANCER: During Knockout Cancer for Candlelighters Kids' first year in 2010, the event drew close to 300 people at Randy Couture's Xtreme Couture Gym that featured a 10-fight exhibition with up-and-coming fighters. Additional entertainment and auction items donated from sponsors, including gym owner and MMA legend Randy Couture, helped to raise $12,000 for the charity. The event proved that MMA supporters were not only very interested in seeing excellent fights, but also in supporting those in need in their community. Continuing to grow, year two brought a partnership with Tuff-N-Uff showcasing 10 fights sanctioned by the Nevada State Athletic Commissioner, adding a new layer of legitimacy for the event.The event was also televised for the first time. Due to these efforts and great people volunteering their time and services, the event raised more than $17,000 with close to 700 people in attendance. In year three, the event brought on a new partner and a new venue with The Pearl Theatre and The Palms Hotel & Casino. The third annual event raised even more money with $34,000 and more than 750 people in attendance. Last year, the event was at the Orleans arena in which it raised $37,000 and more than 850 people in attendance.

ABOUT CANDLELIGHTERS CHILDHOOD CANCER FOUNDATION: Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation of Nevada was incorporated in 1978. The mission is to provide support, education, hope and advocacy through programs and services for children and adolescents with cancer, their families and the professionals who care for them. Services include financial assistance for medical and prescription co-payments, utilities, rent or mortgage payments, costs for local transportation and out-of-state travel for treatment, and funeral expenses. In addition, families have access to counseling, survivorship scholarships, camp and many more services. All programs and services are offered to any family with a child, birth to 21 years of age, diagnosed with cancer at no cost.
