Matt "The Terror" Serra Shows Up to the Dance in Signature Style

Dancing with the StarsTM reality television show can hold your hand when it comes to dancing. But no one could take your hand once the cage door is slammed shut in the Octagon ring.

Dancing with the Stars reality television show knows a thing or two when it comes to dancing. The star-struck TV show has penetrated households by the hundreds of millions. Viewers instantaneously became judges of the USA's most watched dance competition, witnessing the shows elegant dance moves, techniques, and choreographed styles. Matt Serra (Pictures) must have been watching because when the lean, willowy mixed martial artist pranced around the octagon cage on April 7th, he appeared to have taken a page out of Muhammad Ali's book with his fancy footwork. Like an erotic dancer hugging the pole at a local strip club, this kid was slick; I mean SICK! --- "April Fools!

In reality, TERROR did NOT move like a butterfly; but he did sting like a bee. Though no one knew it, Matt Serra (Pictures) showed up in Houston for the Ultimate Fighting Championship's - UFC 69, with a strategy unbeknown to all of us MMA fans, his mission to brawl, his technique was to GROUND-N-POUND the current World MMA Welterweight Champion, George "GSP" St. Pierre. The short, stocky, cocky Long Island New Yorker accomplished his mission when he pounced the younger GSP on the cage's floor, like-no-tomorrow. Everyone in the world expected The Terror's best game plan; take GSP to the mat, fancy up some incredible BJJ move, and try his hardest to tap, submit, or make GSP quit. No one, and I mean no one, expected the Renzo Gracie (Pictures) Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt to slug it out with St. Pierre, especially since the much taller, leaner, and what most believed "meaner" Canadian MMA star had so many victories behind him. Most notably, he pounded 9 time defending Welterweight World Champion, Matt Hughes (Pictures), a few short months earlier.

As everyone from the offices of AMMAA, the Amateur Mixed Martial Arts Association, gathered around the campfire to watch this glorious event unfold, we prayed our idol would take home the Gold, even though we honestly doubted our faith that Matt could harm George. It did not seem possible in the light of the odds stacked against Serra that he could win the fight. As much as we wanted to, we could not get ourselves to believe fate, as God had it planned for this evening. We never saw Terror say a prayer, make a hand gesture, or thank The Lord. In a world where a fighter doesn't make it out of the cage without thanking our savior, how could God be on Matt's side? As much as Diego Sanchez (Pictures) believed he would beat Josh Koscheck (Pictures) in the fight preceding this Main event, it simply was not "The Nightmare's" night, and Josh prevailed, and I won breakfast from my comrades for a week.

Inshallah, we will see Matt Serra (Pictures) defend his World Title time-and-time again. Hopefully we will see this man's man, defend his title, possibly even closer to home, in "Little Vegas"; that's Atlantic City, New Jersey.

As a tribute to the eloquent display of ruthless pounding that Serra gave St. Pierre, the endless hours of training we know Matt endured to prepare for this fight, the Amateur Mixed Martial Arts AssociationTM, and Miss MMATM have both dedicated their website home pages to his victory.

The Amateur Mixed Martial Arts Association is a grassroots organization focused on creating opportunities in mixed martial arts for those who train in the sport. The association's belief is that we can show fighters and fans a way to earn a living in which they love so much.

Subsequently, the 60 Minutes page on Yahoo.com received more votes and message posts for the MMA piece than any other sports story previously listed, including pieces on Dale Earnhardt, Tiger Woods, Michael Jordan and the New York Yankees. For the first time in history, MMA outpaced Boxing in events and television coverage in 2006. In recent news, CBS Broadcasting televised a segment on 60 Minutes, featuring the sport of Mixed Martial Arts. Nielsen Ratings indicated for the first time this season, 60 Minutes finished as one the five most-watched programs for the week" on Sunday. The show also finished first in its time period in households, viewers and adults 25-54.
