Stars come out for GFC

Aug 15, 2007
Gonzaga, Gracie, Riggs and Sapp attending debut of Global FC

As if the Global FC debut featuring 8 high-profile professional Mixed Martial Arts bouts including The Global FC Middleweight Championship between Edwin "Babyface" Dewees and Mavrick "The Soul Collector" Harvey, a Global FC Heavyweight Championship war featuring Jeff "The Snowman" Monson and Chris Guillen (Pictures) as well as Super Heavyweight phenom Butterbean, former WWE Wrestler Sean O'Haire and the legendary Mark Kerr (Pictures) in action was not star-studded enough, many celebrity guests will also take part in the festivities.

Among the special guests will be many of the biggest names in the history of MMA including the iconic Royce Gracie (Pictures). Gracie was one of the first stars to put the sport on the map. Utilizing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu with amazing effectiveness, Gracie, a real giant killer, often took down much larger and stronger opponents in the early days of MMA when weight classes did not exist. He has battled many of MMA's legends including Ken Shamrock (Pictures), Dan "The Beast" Severn, Kimo and Sakuraba. Top Middleweight competitor Joe "Diesel" Riggs, who has bested the likes of Nick Diaz (Pictures), Jason Von Flu and Chris Lytle (Pictures) to name a few, will also be in the house. Amazingly, just days before his date with destiny and UFC Heavyweight Title shot at Randy "The Natural" Couture, Gabriel Gonzaga (Pictures) will take a break from his training to take in all the action at the Global FC debut. Gonzaga's shocking KO win over MMA's deadliest striker Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic will not soon be forgotten.

The Ring Girls on August 17 will be none other than the most downloaded sisters on the Internet, CJ and Raquel, The Gibson Sisters. K-1 and Pride FC veteran, and one of the most powerful Super Heavyweights of all time Bob "The Beast" Sapp will join Todd Keneley on the Global FC announce team. Sapp's charisma should make for an entertaining broadcast. Outside of his exploits in the ring, "The Beast" is also becoming a star of the silver screen appearing in motion pictures including "The Longest Yard" with Adam Sandler and Chris Rock.
