Sucker Punch Rocks Seni08!
Almost 30,000 visitors made the Seni the Combat Sports Show a
phenomenal success at the weekend and with such notable guests as
Guy Ritchie, Gok Wan, Boxing World Heavyweight Champion Wvladimir
Klitschko, UFC interim World Heavyweight champion Antonio Noguerio
and Bruce Lee's widow and daughter Linda and Shannon in attendance,
the independant British Movie 'Sucker Punch' stole the show's
thunder with a screening that saw the door shut on many more trying
to get in on an already over-full house.
The allotted thirty minute Q&A session over-ran by forty minutes and the crowd was only broken up when ushers insisted that the next film in the schedule had to be shown. First time director Malcolm Martin was overwhelmed by the response to the screening stating that "given the high-profile nature of the event, with such stars in attendance, the response to our film has been phenomenal." Stars Danny John Jules, Gordan Alexander and Ian Freeman (Pictures) were in constant demand after the screening, smiling broadly as they were beseiged by fans impressed with the movie's big heart and potent mix of action and comedy.
John Jules, most famous for his role as 'Cat' in 'Red Dwarf'' and a co-starring role in Hollywood hit 'Blade 2' felt that the film's appeal lay in the fact that it was one hundred percent British without falling into the stereo-typical pigeon-holing of costume drama, rom-com or cockney gangster movie, a fact heartily confirmed by the audience at the Q&A. As Harley would say..."Lovely!"
Sucker Punch; The Story
'Sucker Punch' sees Ray ‘Harley' Davidson (Danny John Jules) as a low-life fringe player in London's seedy underworld. Harley's not going for broke he's already there and ekes out a meagre living by managing and betting on backstreet fighters in illegal bare-knuckle contests. He has one goal in life, to bring down The Man, Victor Maitland (Ian Freeman (Pictures)), porn baron, loan shark and manager of the best fighter in town but Harley hasn't managed a decent fighter in years, until Buchinsky (Gordon Alexander) literally walks into his life. Buchinsky. He doesn't look like much, doesn't say much either and suffers from recurring nightmares but he sure knows how to fight. After swiftly disposing of one of Maitland's fighters, Buchinsky finds himself seemingly coerced into a partnership by the fast talking Harley.
The duo soon becomes a hot ticket, Charles knocking out all-comers, Harley cleaning up the side-bets. Old habits die hard, however, and Harley squanders the money as quickly as Charles earns it and finds himself in debt to a local loan shark. Seeing his opportunity, Maitland buys the debt and now Harley owes him. Unless Buchinsky agrees to fight a top professional, brought in from the North, using all his winnings as the stake, Harley will never walk again. Harley's fate lays in the balance and only one question remains; will Buchinsky show up for the fight of his life?

Sucker Punch Villains Kick Ass at Cage Rage and Pain and Glory!
'Sucker Punch' villain Ian 'The Machine' Freeman stepped into the cage one last time at The NEC in Birmingham to try and recapture the Cage Rage British Light-Heavyweight title from Champion and big-hitter Paul Cahoon (Pictures). It was just like the film as Ian, ten years older than the champion, was perceived as the underdog but the movies bad guy delivered his own Sucker Punch by turning in a vintage performance and dominated the fight reclaiming the title in emphatic fashion. Ian may be retiring from the cage but see 'The Machine' in brutal action again in... 'Sucker Punch'!
Maitland's number one fighter, Creel, is played by former World Karate Champion Leon Walters and he kept up his one hundred percent K-1 record with a stunning 1st round knockout of Kevin Hunt on the recent Pain and Glory fightshow spectacular at Seni08. The Sucker Punch bad boy is now 2-0, both by way of big KO! Sucker Punch...Real fighters! Real fight action!
