TITAN ENTERTAINMENT PRESENTS THE COMBAT SPORTS CHAMPIONSHIPS CONFIRMS ADDITION OF MARRIOTT VS. UFC VET ROBERTS
(PRESS RELEASE) -- The highly-popular mixed martial arts website
FiveOuncesOfPain.com broke the news late last week about an
upcoming featherweight bout between 14-1 blue chip prospect Eric
Marriott and UFC veteran "Are you Ready" Ryan Roberts. According to
the report, Marriott vs. Roberts has been added to the debut "TITAN
ENTERTAINMENT PRESENTS THE COMBAT SPORTS CHAMPIONSHIPS"
(www.CombatSC.com) card on Friday, Oct. 2 at the historic Memorial
Hall in Kansas City, Kansas (tickets now on-sale at
Ticketmaster.com). Titan Entertainment and Combat Sports
Championships President and CEO Joe Kelly has now confirmed the
matchup being official. "Last week I promised two surprise co-main
events that would have strong appeal to hardcore MMA fans in the
Midwest, and Eric Marriott and Ryan Roberts is indeed one of the
fights we have signed," said Kelly. "Eric and his management asked
us to test him on Aug. 28 during HDNet's and M-1's "Breakthrough"
event and he moved up to '55 to fight Tim Bazer. He passed that
test but asked us to challenge him again. So we've signed Ryan to
fight him at 145 lbs." With a combined amateur and pro record of
24-4, the 23-year old Marriott is currently on the radar of every
major promotion in the sport. "The goal of the Combat Sports
Championships isn't to try and compete with the UFC, Strikeforce,
or the Bellator Fighting Championships -- it's to showcase the top
up-and-coming talent from around the country and also the world and
give them a platform to take their career to the next level. Our
Oct. 2 is laden with prospects about to move on to bigger shows and
we think Eric might be the first guy that we help send to the big
show." However, Marriott is taking a huge risk in his career path
by taking on Roberts, a highly-regarded fighter from Nebraska who
has competed in the UFC. "Ryan's record is 8-6 right now but he
could easily be 12-2 if he decided to take easier fights in his
career," Kelly began. "However, all he does is fight legit guys
like Donald Cerrone, Marcus Aurelio, Zach George, and Joe Wilk.
Roberts is a true fighter and again is taking on another top
performer in Eric. Maybe one of these days Ryan will relax and take
a layup, but we're glad he's more than willing to continue to step
up." Roberts currently finds himself in the midst of a four-fight
losing streak but those losses have been at 155 lbs. For his Oct. 2
fight vs. Marriott at "CSC Fight Night I," he will be dropping down
to 145 lbs., which has many industry insiders intrigued. "Ryan
Roberts at featherweight is a pretty scary prospect," said Sam
Caplan, Vice President of Talent Relations for Titan
Entertainment's Combat Sports Championships. "If Ryan is committed
to competing at 145 lbs., it's not going to be long until he finds
himself back competing on national television. Marriott is a blue
chipper but since this fight is at 145 pounds, the outcome could go
either way." The Roberts vs. Marriott matchup will co-headline a
"CSC Fight Night I" card on Oct. 2 at Memorial Hall that will
feature a total of eight professional fights as well as four
high-level amateur bouts fought under pro-style rules. Also
featured on the card will be bouts between local favorite Rudy
Bears (10-3) vs. Matt Delanoit (14-8), Tyler "The Evolution"
Stinson (14-5) vs. Brandon Newsome (12-4), Drew Dober (1-0) vs.
Aaron Derrow (5-1), and Chad Vandenberg (4-1) vs. Shad Lankford
(2-3). Additionally, Kelly is promising the announcement of two
other high-level pro matchups to be made next week. "We're already
getting great feedback on the card we've assembled," he said.
"However, when we announce our two final matchups, I think fans in
the Midwest will be blown away. Call it promoter-speak if you want,
but 'CSC Fight Night I' is going to be the best card in Kansas
history and I've got rival promoters calling me and telling me
that." Doors to Memorial Hall will open at 7 p.m. CT with tickets
priced at $75 for floor seats and $25 for general admission.
Tickets can be purchased at all local Ticketmaster outlets or at
Ticketmaster.com. For additional information on "CSC Fight Night 1"
