TYSON GRIFFIN LAUNCHES FUNDRAISER FOR BOYS TOWN OF NEVADA

(PRESS RELEASE) -- Featherweight stand-out, Tyson Griffin wants to bring awareness to troubled youth in the Las Vegas area by creating a fundraising opportunity via a raffle for two event and after party tickets surrounding his next fight on October 29th at UFC 137 against Bart Palasewzki at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

As a frequent mentor to the troubled youth serviced by the Boys Town of Nevada organization, Griffin wanted to do more and saw his fight this coming October as the perfect way to raise awareness and funding for a cause that is truly near to his heart. With a $25 value the raffle will be online via Griffin’s website, www.tysongriffin.com and boystown.org/Nevada and the lucky winner will receive two tickets to Griffin’s fight and entry for two into his much anticipated after party.

“I could have been in their shoes,” said Griffin. “I had a chance to work with Boys Town a couple of times for the UFC and learning about the kids down there and what their situations were, I could relate. Growing up my parents got locked up and I was in foster care for a little bit and I could really relate to those kids and understand what they’re going through and what the situation is. I was one of those kids back in the day and I just want to really give back based on the situations I came from and help those kids understand that it doesn’t really matter where you come from that you can still come out on top.”

Marlies Mathews, Program Operations Manager at The Boys Town Nevada has been with the organization for almost 11 years and sees value in the assistance from Tyson Griffin and the mixed martial arts community.

“The best thing about working with fighters like Tyson is that most of them have come from backgrounds similar to our kids,” said Mathews. “Our kids tend to be in situations where they have lost all hope. They believe that they won’t amount to anything, that their future is very grim, and they have nothing to look forward to. When these fighters come they talk about the obstacles they had to overcome to be successful. They encourage the kids to work hard, set goals and the importance of school. These kids can really relate to these fighters because these fighters come from similar backgrounds and they begin to think, ‘look what I can do, look at the potential that I really do have.’

Tom Call, manager of Tyson Griffin and owner of Impact Fight Management feels that Griffin will set a new standard for fighters with the ones in the Impact stable leading the path.

“It’s not just about entertaining the fans, we have to be proactive in showcasing the true character of our clients and I applaud Tyson for stepping up and setting a new MMA standard. Expect more Impact fighters to follow the same course.”

Scott Claxon, President of Stars MMA, Griffin’s theatrical and modeling agent agrees.

“What is needed is the constant understanding that these fighters are artists and feel deeply for humanity. Tyson’s unique approach translates this message to all.”v About Tyson Griffin
