Tacoma natives Gavronski, Weston steal the show at Battle at the Boat 102

(PRESS RELEASE) -- Tacoma, Washington - World class professional boxing once again took center stage at the Emerald Queen Casino on Saturday night. Six hotly anticipated bouts made up an incredible fight card that left fans lucky enough to be in attendance with their jaws squarely on the floor.

Battle at the Boat 102 featured a main event worthy of the title. Hometown favorite Mike “Imagine Me” Gavronski (19-1-1 12KOs) took on journeyman fighter Laatekwei Hammond (21-10 14KO’s) of Worcester, Massachusetts in a 10-round contest. The heavily favored Gavronski didn’t disappoint, dominating from bell to bell. The Tacoma native used his unique combination of technical ability and devastating power to land brutal hooks and equally dangerous jabs throughout the contest. Although the more experienced fighter, Hammond was never able to find his rhythm despite landing more than a few hard shots. In the end, Gavronski proved too much for Hammond, winning a Unanimous Decision and sending his hometown fans happy yet again.

In the evening’s semi-main event, blue chip prospect and Tacoma native Marquice Weston (6-0-1 2KO’s) took on Utah’s David Sanchez (3-2 1KO) in a 5-round war. With both fighters looking to score the knockout, this incredible contest was a crowd-pleaser to be sure. The taller Weston enjoyed a significant reach advantage, using his length to keep Sanchez in range, never allowing his opponent to build momentum. At the end of 5 rounds and with the decision left in the judge’s hands, the talented Tacoma product Weston took home a unanimous decision victory to keep his perfect record intact and continue his climb up the ranks.

Also featured in a 5-round bout was Vancouver, Washington native Jason Davis taking on David Lopez of Caldwell, Idaho in a highly anticipated undercard contest. The action was fast and furious, with both fighters landing massive shots early and often. Lopez looked to be the better-conditioned fighter, maintaining his pace well into the 4th round. After seeing their fighter sustain massive damage throughout the fight, Davis’ corner had seen enough going into the 5th, throwing in the towel before the bell and giving David Lopez his fifth professional victory.

Battle at the Boat 102 featured three excellent undercard bouts as well. Those results are as follows:

Jeremy McCleary (7-1) def. Benny Vinson (1-4 1KO) via Unanimous Decision (40-35, 40-35, 40-35)

Cameron Sevilla-Rivera (6-1 5KOs) def. Steven McKinney (1-4) via 3rd round TKO (corner stoppage)

Alan Luk (1-0) def. Sean Gee (2-1) via Split Decision
