The AMMAC brings regional championships to MMA at LITC 6 in Philadelphia
Nov 30, 2010
(PRESS RELEASE) -- The American Mixed Martial Arts Council (AMMAC)
will hold its first regional championship bout at Locked in the
Cage 6 on Friday December 3rd in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at The
National Guard Armory. A middleweight bout between New Jersey’s Tim
Williams (4-0) and Pennsylvania’s Duane Bastress (3-0) will crown
the first AMMAC Mid-Atlantic Middleweight Champion.
“And when you look at that fight, it’s the perfect fight to launch the AMMAC on. These are the two top guys in their circuit. Duane is the man in Central PA, and Timmy is the man in Philly.” Said Paul Miles founder of the AMMAC. “So even though the AMMAC is still being organized, and we're still putting everything together. It would have been a mistake to let an opportunity like this pass. This is exactly what we want in an AMMAC sanctioned fight. Two guys who are at the top of their game putting belts, and undefeated records, and momentum and everything else on the line. This fight is a direct slap in the face to traditional soft serve-let's get the good fights in the UFC mentality some matchmakers and managers have.”
The goal of the AMMAC is to crown regional champions in the eight
major weight classes in MMA, heavyweight to flyweight. The first
region of the United States to feature AMMAC crowned champions will
be the Mid-Atlantic which consists of New York, New Jersey,
Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Washington DC and Virginia.
A panel of MMA journalists from the Mid-Atlantic region along with state and FightMatrix.com rankings will collaborate to form the AMMAC’s first rankings committee. The AMMAC ranking committee will vote on an initial top five ranking that will encourage local MMA events into booking the best possible match-ups for their cards.
“The AMMAC is an idea I've had for a little while now, but it didn't grow legs until September when the Williams/Bastress fight was put on the table” Said Miles. “LITC's matchmaker Fran Evans called me up while I was driving down to Atlantic City for a Ring of Combat show. He told me that Tim was coming back from a six month hiatus to defend his LITC belt, and wanted to know who I thought would be a good opponent. I asked Bill Bookwalter because he's got encyclopedic knowledge of this area's fighters, particularly the middleweight division. He only gave me one name: Duane Bastress.”
