(PRESS RELEASE) -- GRAHAM ‘AFTERBURNER‘ TURNER has expressed his
desire to showcase his talents during Cage Warriors’ busy schedule
of international events in 2012.
The Scot impressed with a split decision win over Ashleigh Grimshaw at Cage Warriors 44 earlier this month, taking his professional record to 18-6-1.
“Looking back on that fight,” said Turner, “I feel I did enough to
win it. I was the more active fighter, even when on the back-foot
and also when on the attack.
“I was throwing combinations of five-to-six strikes at a time, whereas Grimshaw was just looking for that knock-out punch and, sure, in the third round he dropped me as I was off balance but I got straight back up unhurt and continued.
“But I was happy to hear the third judge call my name, which is why I dropped to my knees with relief. I was just glad that Cage Warriors is such a professional show and that there are no bad calls.”
Turner has been on the mend since that epic battle with Grimshaw, having picked up an ankle injury.
The 23-year-old from Carnwath explained: “I injured my right ankle when kicking Ash in the second round but continued to kick in the third, so because of that I have ligament damage in my ankle. I’m attending physiotherapy and should be back in full training in mid-November.”
Turner has built up considerable momentum, winning ten of his last eleven bouts. However, the Dinky Ninjas featherweight insists he won’t be affected by the weight of expectation on his shoulders.
“I feel I can go far in this sport,” Turner said. “The only thing I find difficult and holding me back from training as much as I’d like to is working full-time.
“As much as I appreciate the support, I don’t let all the hype have any impact on me. I’m not the type of person to let it go to my head.”
Turner added: “Cage Warriors is run so smoothly and there’s no pressure on you. You’re well informed before your fight so you have enough time to be prepared. It’s how well organised the shows are that makes the experience so much better.
“I can’t wait for my next fight on Cage Warriors. Hopefully I’ll be fighting for the title at some point. I’m sure eager to be involved in the Cage Warriors international shows.”
