UFC heavyweight Brendan Schaub becomes the face of Five Star Clothing Company

(PRESS RELEASE) -- UFC heavyweight contender Brendan Schaub has signed a significant long-term multi-fight deal that will include in cage sponsorship with Fivestar Clothing Company. Besides wearing FVSTR apparel in and out of the cage, Brendan will serve as the company’s spokesperson and will be the face of the brand. He will work with FVSTR on a range of initiatives to include appearances, design, and philanthropic work.

“I’m very excited to be a part of the FVSTR brand,” says Schaub. “I believe in what FVSTR represents and don’t think I could have found a better apparel company that reflects who I am and believes in me as much as these guys do.”

FVSTR Clothing is a lifestyle brand based on the five elements of nature – metal, water, wood, fire, and earth - with each point of the star representing one of the elements. It is rooted in an ancient Chinese philosophy of creation and destruction. It is the original foundation of all martial arts that exist today and has the true perspective of Yin and Yang. Whatever is created can be destroyed and vice versa. FVSTR /Five-Star/ Clothing Company is designed with these elements in mind.

“We have been very careful about our selection of who would be representing our brand,” says Five Star CEO Ric Cartwright. “We wanted someone who could really rep it well.”

FVSTR has worked with UFC fighter Matt Mitrione and Strikeforce women’s champion Cristianne “Cyborg” Santos in the past, but after a meeting with Alchemist CEO MC Hammer and Alchemist President Lex McMahon, Schaub seemed to be the perfect fit for the company. It was Schaub’s humility during a lunch in Las Vegas that sealed the deal.

“At lunch I got to sit next to [Brendan] and was able to talk to him about Five Star and he was able to tell us some things about himself. His love of the sport, his desire to become a champion, and his work and training ethics were far beyond most athletes. But the biggest point was when he told me about his charity work with animals and with kids. I would have signed [the contract] right there and then.”

“To me the true champion is not only the guy with belt, but it is about the athlete who wears that belt and what they represent and I know in Brendan we are very fortunate to have the highest caliber of a person that will represent our line.”

FVSTR Clothing Company was formed in 2006 by Cartwright, who had an extensive background in traditional Chinese martial arts and formal training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. A major part of the FVSTR Team, Thom McElroy, who was one of the original founders of apparel giant, Volcom. McElroy brings a wealth of experience to FVSTR and sits on its board of directors.

Cartwright is also excited to be working with Schaub’s management company and their extensive social media initiative, which includes MC Hammer’s two million Twitter followers. “It’s exciting because they know how to create opportunities for their sponsors,” Cartwright says. “They don’t just sign the deal and walk away. They stay by the sponsor and help them grow with the athlete. No one else does that.”
