UFC star Foster to return to the cage in London

(PRESS RELEASE) -- HAVING been out of action for almost a year due to injury, ex-UFC welterweight Brian Foster (15-5-0) will return to action in London on October 1 to take on Jack ‘The Stone’ Mason at Cage Warriors 44.

Foster, who has a 3-2 UFC record, hasn’t fought since November 2010. The Oklahoma native was due to take on Sean Pierson at UFC 129 back in April but was forced off the card after a pre-fight medical examination revealed a brain haemorrhage. This followed another serious injury, when a kick to the groin caused one of Foster’s testicles to burst.

However, Foster has now been cleared to fight again and the HMV Forum in Kentish Town will play host to his return in just over a fortnight. Foster’s coach, Marc Fiore of the Hit Squad, said: “Brian has not been given permission to fight outside of the UFC. He was medically released.

“We would like to thank the UFC for the opportunity they have given Brian to be a part of their organisation. Brian has been medically cleared to fight by a neurosurgeon and two other doctors. We want to keep Brian actively fighting and to monitor his medical well-being. Our ultimate goal for Brian is to get him back into the UFC.”

Foster made his UFC debut in September 2009 and went on to record victories over Brock Larson, Forrest Petz and Matt Brown, while suffering defeats to Rick Story and Chris Lytle. The 27-year-old’s clash with Story earned him a ‘Fight of the Night’ bonus on his debut at UFC 103.

The bout will be contested at a catchweight of 181lbs. Mason (17-8-0) of Team Tsunami, is a highly-ranked middleweight in the UK and bounced back from his July defeat to Norman Paraisy at Cage Warriors 43 by securing a first round TKO against Miguel Bernard at UCMMA ‘Warrior Creed’ last month. The clash with Foster represents an enormous opportunity for the 29-year-old from Chelmsford in what is sure to be the biggest challenge of his career to date.

“To have Brian Foster fighting on Cage Warriors is a sign of things to come with this promotion,” said Cage Warriors director Graham Boylan. “Foster is a great MMA talent but he's unfortunately had his fair share of injuries.

“This fight with Jack Mason will be an awesome fight. I have spoken to Jack and Brian and they are both pumped for this. I wish the pair of them the best of luck. It’s a big deal for both fighters at this time in their careers. Foster needs to get back in there and Mason wants the MMA world to see what he's capable of. Could you ask for any more ingredients for a great MMA fight?”

Foster v Mason will co-headline Cage Warriors 44 at the HMV Forum in London on October 1, sharing main event status with the CWFC lightweight title bout between unbeaten Irishman Joseph Duffy (10-0-0) and Swiss-based 31-year-old Ivan Musardo (17-6-1). Tickets are available fromwww.CageWarriors.com.
