WEC HONORED BY COLUMBUS BLUE JACKETS HOCKEY TEAM

Mar 04, 2010

(PRESS RELEASE) -- Gearing up for Saturday’s loaded event at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio, WEC General Manager Reed Harris and bantamweight contender Miguel Angel Torres were honored by the city’s National Hockey League team this morning.

Columbus Blue Jackets captain Rick Nash, who recently won an Olympic gold medal for Team Canada, as well as forwards Jared Boll and Derek Dorsett, presented Harris and Torres with authentic, personalized team jerseys. In return, Harris and Torres gave the trio a bevy of official WEC gear, including gloves, sweatshirts, and hats. Harris and Torres instantly struck up friendships with the players and were thrilled to be recognized by the team.

“I’ve become a big Rick Nash fan, not only for his play in the Olympics, but for his dedication to the city of Columbus,” Harris said. “The entire Columbus Blue Jackets organization is first-class and we can’t wait to hold an event at Nationwide this weekend.”

“I have the utmost respect for professional hockey players,” Torres added. “They are some of the best athletes in the world and it’s great to know that they follow the sport of MMA. Guys like Jared, Derek, and Rick really appreciate our sport. I’m leaving here a big fan of those guys.”
