WKA Hits Charlottetown on October 7
Tuesday, September 26, 2006
The WKA Professional World Middleweight Championship is scheduled for Saturday October 7th in Charlottetown, Canada. With the championship bout only two weeks away, both camps are in high gear.

Gary Bonefant hails from New Hampshire, USA and is the #1 world ranked contender. His championship preparations have taken him across the USA, included traveling to Las Vegas in July to train with K1 athletes and visiting premiere boxing gyms in California in August.

Bonefant is being assisted in his training by Tony Ventura, former World Super middleweight champion. Ventura is familiar with Nawaz’s style as they faced each other in the ring back in 2002 when Nawaz moved up in weight to challenge Ventura. Bonefant’s coaches have brought in sparring partners from the world of boxing, MMA, and kickboxing to prepare the American athlete. Their Bonefant camp is confident that the World title will be brought to the USA on October 7th.

Muzammal Nawaz is from Burlington, Canada and has had a long history fighting for the WKA. He is known in the kickboxing world as a resilient athlete who has lead his own career in the sport. For this important bout, Nawaz has been working with highly respected professional boxing trainer Chris Johnson. Johnson, a former Olympian boxing medallist (1992) and NABF professional champion (2002), has been working on Nawaz’s boxing skills. Considered one of the most proficient kickers in the sport, the added boxing training should round out his skills in this important bout.

He has been fine-tuning his ring tools by sparring with various Canadian professional boxers, as well as top international amateur kickboxers on his well respected Team Abu Zayd.

As both athletes finalize their preparations – the kickboxing world waits in anticipation for the outcome of this highly anticipated bout. Bids have already been offered for the first title defense – one from Spain and the other from the USA. The world-wide response attests to the international interest in this bout and the two athletes involved.

For now, the world will have to tune into Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, for the exciting world championship bout.
