WORLD CHAMPION TETSUYA YAMATO BATTLES BRITISH PHENOM GREG WOOTTON

(PRESS RELEASE) -- Las Vegas, Nev. – Tetsuya Yamato, who boasts some of the nastiest and most feared elbows in Muay Thai and twice defeated Kevin Ross, defends his world title against super-slick British phenom Greg Wooton in the Lion Fight 26 main event on Friday, Nov. 20.

The highly anticipated five-round tilt at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Conn., will mark Yamato's first defense of the Lion Fight super lightweight championship, which the Japanese star seized in March after battering Kevin Ross with elbows and forcing a referee stoppage just 2 minutes and 43 seconds into the fight. The entire six-fight main card will be broadcast live on AXS TV.

“The viciousness and accuracy in which Tetsuya Yamato throws elbow strikes is beautiful to watch,” said Lion Fight President Scott Kent. “The timing and placement of his shots are impeccable, as we saw in both fights against Kevin Ross. But as they say, 'It's easier to win the title then to hold onto it' and Greg Wootton is an elite, tough-as-nails fighter who never backs down, is dangerous wherever the fight goes and has beaten some of Thailand's best, so expect Yamato to have his hands full in this one.”

The 27-year-old Yamato, nicknamed the “Strong-Armed Painter” in his homeland because of his professional skills as a house painter, holds a record of 35-12-1 (23 knockouts); “The Prodigy” Wooton, 24, has racked up an outstanding 35-2 pro record that includes a jaw-dropping signature win over Petboonchu (regarded by some as Muay Thai's best pound-for-pound fighter). Wooton's long length, considerable power and incredible versatility qualify him as a legitimate candidate to make Yamato's title reign a brief one.

Meanwhile, in the co-main event, Nick Chasteen (4-1) tests himself against Brooklyn's Turan Hasanov (15-7-1) in what figures to be the stiffest challenge of Chasteen's young career. A 26-year-old Phoenix native whose Golden Boy good looks and distinguished amateur career make him one of North America's hottest prospects, Chasteen has been training in Thailand for this fight, a sign of how seriously he is approaching this opportunity.

The rest of the main card includes unbeaten prospects such as knockout artist Victor Saravia (4-0), John Nofer (2-0) and Boston-area sheriff's deputy/fighter Julio Pena (3-0). Also on the card is Pedro Gonzalez (2-1), an ultra-ferocious New Englander who dealt Chasteen his lone loss (via TKO) and tries to finish fights with reckless abandon.
