WRECK MMA: FIGHTS FOR THE TROOPS
Aug 28, 2009
(PRESS RELEASE) -- For fight fans in the Ottawa/Gatineau region,
Christmas comes early in 2009. On December 12th, the Robert Guertin
Arena is once again the home of the greatest combat sport in the
world. In their inaugural event, REC PROMOTIONS, in association
with PLANET INK STUDIOS presents: WRECK MMA: FIGHTS FOR THE
TROOPS.
As WRECK MMA is looking to place MMA in a positive light, a major focus of the promotion will be charitable work. With this goal in mind a portion of the proceeds will be going to SOLDIER ON, which contributes to optimizing the functional independence of ill or injured Canadian Forces personnel or former personnel by delivering programs and services and facilitating and integrating opportunities that support their full and active participation in physical fitness, health promotion and sport.
An Ottawa run promotion; Wreck MMA will be run with the purpose to
develop the skill and abilities of the local athletes and giving
them a place to showcase their talent and give them the
opportunities to further their careers. Wreck is led by its
President, Ottawa’s Nick
Castiglia, who has been a fixture within the martials arts
community for years as both a competitor and event organizer. Also
on board as the Wreck matchmaker is Alex Caporicci. Caporicci has
been involved with multiple MMA organizations as promoter and
matchmaker and is currently the matchmaker for Warrior-1 and
Ringside.
The main event of the evening will include a much anticipated bout between BTT Canada Head Instructor, Fabio Holanda and SEAN ‘PIMP DADDY’ PIERSON. A Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu blackbelt, Holanda is the instructor for some of the country’s top talent including UFC fighters Patrick Cote and Jonathan Goulet, and an instructor for many of the top talents in the Ottawa region including Nabil Khatib and Nick Denis. In his way stands the formidable Pierson who is coming off a TKO victory versus the formally undefeated Jason Rorison. The fight is expected to be a battle of wills that will see if Holanda’s world class Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu can match up with the strength and ground and pound ability of Pierson.
Also scheduled to appear on the card are Mark ‘Boots’ Holst, Nabil ‘The Thrill’ Khatib, Sengoku veteran and Ottawa’s and Ronin MMA's own Nick ‘The Ninja of Love’ Denis, the first female competitor from Ottawa, FIT MMA’s Anna Barone and Randy Turner, currently an active member of the Canadian Forces. The rest of the card will be announced as we get closer to the event and tickets will be available in the very near future.
