Welsh Bantamweight Kris Edwards Signs Exclusive Multi Fight Deal With Cage Warriors

(PRESS RELEASE) -- The Cage Warriors Fighting Championship is proud to announce the signing of the 21 year old Welsh Bantamweight Kris Edwards (6-3-0) to an exclusive multi fight deal. Based in Abertillery, South Wales; Edwards is a three year veteran of the sport who has quickly earned a reputation for being one of the brightest prospects in the UK Bantamweight division.

Like many of his team mates at Tillery Combat, the young Welsh standout started his MMA career on the local amateur circuit where he amassed a 5-3 record in the unpaid ranks. Even at that early stage Edwards turned heads with his exciting fight style which saw him finish his opponents with a mix of TKO’s and submissions.

Despite losing on his pro debut in February 2010, the Tillery Combat fighter has rebounded well and has now settled in the 135 lbs Bantamweight division after fighting at several weight classes early in his pro career. Training under the watchful eye of head coach Richard Shore (who also has several other promising young fighters on his books) has only helped to push Edwards to a promising 6-3 pro record, which has seen him defeat other promising young prospects such as James Brum (6-2-0) and Chris Garry (5-1-0).

Despite having four of his professional wins coming by submission, Edwards entered the MMA world from a Muay Thai background and classes himself primarily as a striker who prefers to “stand-up and fight”. Nevertheless the young Welshman actively works on his ground game and currently holds a blue belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and won the Hereford BJJ Open, whilst also submitting grapplers in MMA competition.

Edwards has also claimed domestic Titles which has seen him defeat Spencer Hewitt (7-2) by submission to win the Valley of Kings Bantamweight Title in May of this year. Whilst last time out at Pain Pit Fight Night he defeated the well travelled veteran Greg Knapp (7-6-0) to claim another Bantamweight strap.

Currently ranked in the top 10 in both the UK and European rankings at 135 lbs, Edwards is full of confidence for the future as he told CageWarriors.com “I believe that I am currently with the best up and coming MMA team in Europe. We currently have 12 active Pro fighters and at least another 20+ amateurs. I have quality sparring partners and we all help each other progress every time we train”.

When asked why he signed for the UK based promotion, the rising young Welshman said “Signing for Cage Warriors is a dream come true. I’m still only 21 and have a lot to learn and fighting for an organisation as established as Cage Warriors will only help me advance my MMA career. I would like to thank Ian Dean, Graham Boylan and my coach Richard Shore for providing me with this opportunity”.

Whilst the Cage Warriors matchmaker Ian Dean was quoted as saying “I’m really pleased to have Kris Edwards on our ever growing roster. I have been a fan of Kris’ for some time and have watched him improve continuously over the past few years. I look forward to seeing him test his skills on our events through 2012 and beyond.

No date is set for Kris Edwards’ CWFC debut but it is expected he will feature on a show early-on in the packed 2012 international Cage Warriors schedule.
