By recent MMA standards, the month of July was a fairly quiet one. However, it still gave us a classic.

Four weeks between Zuffa events is an almost unheard of occurrence at this point, but UFC 116 on July 3 delivered in a big way. The heavily promoted heavyweight tilt between Brock Lesnar and Shane Carwin far exceeded expectations. It may not have been Randy Couture-Pedro Rizzo 1, but it was nonetheless a highly memorable affair that capped a blockbuster pay-per-view and solidified Lesnar as the sport’s top heavyweight.

August welcomes us back to a more familiar frenzy, with a combined six cards from the UFC, World Extreme Cagefighting and Strikeforce -- exactly the kind of rapid fire schedule that could give these rankings a midsummer facelift.
