HONOLULU -- Nick Diaz (Pictures) missed weight by more than nine pounds on Friday during the weigh-ins for Saturday's EliteXC "Return of the King" event at the Blaisdell Arena.
But it was all according to plan, said EliteXC officials, who confirmed that both parties had agreed prior to weigh-ins that they would fight at a catch-weight of 168 pounds. It was not made clear if both competitors were off-track to making weight at the time of the agreement.
Diaz weighed in at 169.5 pounds for a bout that was originally scheduled for 160 pounds. His opponent, Muhsin Corbbrey (Pictures), weighed in at 163.5 pounds.
EliteXC lightweight champion Karl James Noons (Pictures) came in on-point at 160 pounds, while challenger Yves Edwards (Pictures) came in with room to spare at 158.5 pounds. Edwards was talkative during the obligatory staredown, but when it was over the pair embraced and shook hands.
Former EliteXC middleweight champion Murilo "Ninja" Rua and opponent Tony Bonello (Pictures) both made weight with ease, checking in at 184 and 185 pounds, respectively.
Heavyweight veteran Ron Waterman (Pictures) tipped the scales at 263 pounds while his taller, undefeated opponent Dave Herman (Pictures) came in at 243.5 pounds.
Dropping down from heavyweight, Wayne Cole (Pictures) weighed in at a comfortable 204 pounds to face Rafael Feijao, at 205 pounds, in the opening fight on the Showtime-televised portion of the event.
The remaining fighters stepped onto the scales and made their bouts official.
