HONOLULU, Hawaii, Aug. 3 -- X-1 World Promotions held weigh-ins at 24 Hour Fitness Center on Friday for its August 4 event at the Blaisdell Arena headlined by a middleweight bout between Falaniko Vitale (Pictures) and Steve Renaud (Pictures) and a grudge match between Vernon "Tiger" White and Marcelo Tigre. While Vitale and Renaud made weight with little fanfare, tension between the two "Tigers" at the weigh-ins was apparent. White refused to fight Marcelo, who claimed to have weighed in at 203-pounds earlier in front of doctors and promoters of the event, without personally seeing him make the weight. Tigre, who had left the weigh-ins before White had arrived, was called back and this time tipped the scales at nearly 215-pounds. "He's a dangerous opponent," White said of Tigre. "Why would I want to give him an advantage like that?" After some discussion the fighters agreed to meet at a catch-weight of 210-pounds, and Marcelo Tigre, who was already showing signs of dehydration, left to shed the final five pounds. "I'll go do down there and help him cut the weight myself," said White. "I just want to fight." All other fighters who needed to make weight stepped on the scales and met their contracted requirements.
