LONDON, Nov. 30 -- Chute Boxe standout
Murilo "Ninja" Rua returns Saturday to Cage Rage -- where he has tasted nothing but success -- in an attempt to erase the memory of his September loss to
Robbie Lawler (Pictures). He was on weight Friday for his bout against talented French fighter
Xavier Foupa-Pokam (Pictures).
"Professor X" seemed relaxed the day before he meets "Ninja" in his first Cage Rage main event, which will be streamed live via
ProElite.com pay-per-view at 1 p.m. ET.
"Every fight for me is important," Pokam said. "The fights before this lead me to this one, so they were as important as this one. Every time I fight I feel anxious, but I want to win and will do the best fight I can, definitely.
"I studied him and, yeah, he's a very tough fighter. He's a big name, the former EliteXC world champion, but I want to win tomorrow and become a champion some day, so I think it is a good opportunity to fight such a big name. It's an opportunity for me to say to the people, I'm ready for it now, I can do it.'"
Focused former boxer Tom "Kong" Watson has prepared diligently in the United States for his clash with South London warrior Mark "The Beast" Epstein. Training with the likes of
Dean Lister (Pictures) before moving on to Greg Jackson's camp in New Mexico, Watson spoke enthusiastically about the recent improvements he has made to his grappling game.
Watson was also more than confident in his chances after a cheerful but unfriendly exchange of words with Epstein.
"He's not going to surprise me, but he's got knockout power," Watson said. "So I just have to stay switched on and I think it will be good."
Quality veteran welterweight
Drew Fickett (Pictures), who takes on
Mark Weir (Pictures), was in great form at the photo call. The American seemed in party mood as he went through a variety of poses for the cameras, but he was all business as he looked forward to the fight.
"It's a very obvious strategy," Fickett said. "He knows what I'm going to do; I know what he's going to do. I'm going to take him down, create a scramble and choke him. I want to stay away from his high kick, obviously. I'll definitely impress some people if I win, so it should be awesome. I can't wait to fight him."
Sunderland hard man "Buzz" Berry turned up in great shape in anticipation of his clash with undefeated former doorman and noted power puncher Neil "Goliath" Grove.
"He's a big strong guy," Berry said of his foe. "If he does catch you, it's curtains. But I've done my homework; he won't catch us. He's got gaps in his defense. If he keeps those gaps tomorrow night, his jaw's getting took off."
Trojan gym fighter
Ronnie Mann (Pictures) admitted that he hadn't seen a great deal of footage on his opponent, replacement
Jordan Miller (Pictures). However, he stepped on the scales in absolutely formidable condition for his Poole Jiu-Jitsu adversary.
"He's had a lot of fights that weren't recorded -- that's all I know really," Mann said. "The change of opponent hasn't affected me too much, to be honest. I've done a lot of wrestling, a lot of Thai boxing and jiu-jitsu -- I'm feeling great. Hopefully you should see a submission or a knockout."
Among the formalities, head referee Grant Waterman announced that, for the first time, all fighters contesting championship titles would be tested for "performance enhancing substances." A randomly selected sample of fighters from the rest of the card also faces the prospect of a test after their respective bouts.
