Dan Evensen vs Ruben Villarreal

Dec 5, 2004
Dan Evensen defeated Ruben Villarreal by TKO 1:38 2R Dan Evensen, a John Lewis student who won the GC Fight Fest 8-man tournament to get the Heavyweight belt back in June, was originally scheduled to face Bo Cantrell, but Cantrell stepped up to face Paul Buentello a week earlier at KOTC. Cantrell’s replacement was fan favorite Rubin “ Warpath” Villareal. Evensen started the fight by picking his opponent up over his shoulders and slamming him to the canvas. After Evensen was warned for excessive grabbing of the fence, the two fighters were stood up where the fight was to remain until the end. I deemed this one the cardio match, as both fighters were visibly exhausted after the first few minutes, after which both fighters were content to throw haymakers and see whose landed first. I’m not sure what kept both these fighters on their feet, as they both were exhausted and both had been hit by countless haymakers that always seemed to land but not take out their opponent. Towards the end of the second round, Warpath looked to the ref and signaled that he had bee hit in the throat. Evensen took advantage of his opponent talking to the ref by landing an overhand right that knocked Warpath out. All I can say is that it is not wise to call for a timeout in a fight as you will not be given one. Although you hate to see a main event end this way, Dan Evensen remains your Gladiator Challenge Heavyweight Champion.
