Gladiator Challenge 33: Brutal Force
Rick Collup vs Paul Zillius
Rick Collup pulled a major upset when he submitted Paul Zillius 3:34 of the second period with a choke. Zillius, the GC and KOTC matchmaker, came off a three-year hiatus to return to the cage. The long vacation, it seemed, had a slight effect on his stamina, as Collup succeeded in his endeavors to win.
After some heated stand-up exchanges, which saw Zillius throw some heavy punch flurries, the matchmaker decided to take the fight to the mat. Fans and friends in the audience called out numerous requests, one of which was for some knees. Paul responded by looking into the crowd, and inquisitively replied, "Knees?", before moving to north-south to fulfill the ill-intentioned request. Paul tried vainly to get a TKO, and may have exhausted himself in the process. Collup did a good job of defending the strikes, for the most part.
The first round ended with Paul on top in north-south throwing knees and punches. Collup came out in the second looking the fresher of the two, and proceeded to show off his skills from the clinch, nailing a tiring Zillius with several knees. Once the fight hit the mat, it was restarted standing due to inactivity. Collup again showed his skills with the knees, landing a hard shot to the face of Zillius, who immediately fell forward into a takedown attempt. Collup stopped the shot and sprawled, finishing by choking his tired opponent out.
