You might wonder why someone named “ Fat Guy” was scheduled to fight Nunzio Camaretta … well I did too. I totally understood better once I got the lowdown. I mean could you imagine at UFC 55 main event bout Fat Guy vs. Josh Rafferty? I doubt that would fly on the big screen outside on The Mandalay Bay.
But after a little research, I found out “ Fat Guy” is a local gulf coast alternative vinyl spinner who’d gone to a Reality Combat show one night, probably tipped a few 12-ounce barbells and decided he could fight MMA. Then he made the mistake of telling someone, so they set it up. Great story for MMA you ask? Not so sure. Great story for the locals? Of course. But in the end, besides him getting knocked out, it was good for the sport.
He actually went underwent two months of hard training in which he seemed to be trying to shed his nickname. He ended up losing 40 pounds while at the same time getting a rude awakening as to what MMA fighters go through.
After the not so “ Fat Guy” lasted to the two-minute mark, he seemed to get some more confidence, which only led to his downfall as he lowered his hands and got a fist sandwich that dropped him to the ground.
But was OK. After the fight, he gave the crowd a good speech about how much the fighters go through to fight in this sport. He also went on to give props to all of them, including Camaretta, for giving him his reality check. But then went on to say he will be back in the cage soon.
