Gary Goodridge vs. Sylvester Terkay

May 25, 2004
Next up was Gary Goodridge vs. Sylvester “The Predator” Terkay. After losing to Emelianenko Fedor last year, Goodridge has been on a roll, beating Dan Bobish, Don Frye and Toa in succession. On Saturday, he kept the winning streak alive with a quick knockout of the Predator in the first round. Terkay made the fatal mistake of trying to take Goodridge down, but Gary deftly avoided it and proceeded to fire his signature bombs, connecting with a crushing left roundhouse and then dropping him with another. The ref mercifully jumped in and stopped it before things got too ugly. Gary’s postfight press conference was the most entertaining of the night. Flanked by his sister and strength coach Suzy Goodridge, and sparring partner Tom Erikson, he proceeded to trash The Predator, “He needs to go out and get another chin,” he declared. He then turned his guns on Shannon Briggs. “I trained really hard for Shannon Briggs on April 30th,” he said. “I was disappointed to find out he was afraid. I think he’s going to refuse to fight anyone who has any potential to beat him.” Goodridge credited an inspired training regiment, which included “lots of running, lifting, sparring, kickboxing and wrestling,” under the tutelage of Steve of Steve’s Gym. Whatever Gary’s doing, it’s working.
