Harris Sariento vs Rob McCullough
 Options: | Printer Friendly
by Greg Savage (greg@sherdog.com)

It was a lackluster showing for Team Oyama's "Razor" Rob McCoullough who had his hands full with young Hawaiian Harris Sarmiento who was having no problems taking McCoullough to the mat. With Sarmiento dominating the first two rounds and McCoullough finally getting untracked in the third, it should have been a two rounds to one victory for Sarmiento but the ring announcer called it as a unanimous victory for McCoullough.

During the first intermission, Brian Johnston, who had judged the fight informed a couple of journalists, myself included, that he had judged Sarmiento as the winner of the fight. After following up with the other judges, Cecil Peoples and Dan Davis, it was ascertained that Sarmiento had won on two of the three judge's cards, both Johnston's (29-28) and Peoples' (29-28), while Davis had it for McCoullough (29-27). Commissioner Paul Smith acknowledged the error and awarded the win to Sarmiento in split-decision fashion.
