The night started off with the screaming lungs of none other then Big Papa Schnake. In his fresh-looking suit and his battle scares on his face from his earlier grappling match, he just totally looked the part. He could have used Bruce Buffer’s makeup team to help him out, but when you are in Biloxi, Mississippi, I have a feeling battle wounds are more respected.
The amateur fights were by no means amateurish in action, as not one winner let the judges have a chance at picking the winners. All came in with a plan and took care of business as they ended with three chokes and two stoppages.
A special note about judges, since this was the first mixed martial arts event sanctioned by the Mississippi Athletic Commission they are supposed to appoint the judges. But a the last minute they ran into problem when pre-appointed Judge Harry Moskowitz came down with an illness and could not make his assignment. So they scrambled to add another judge. But this appointed judge went through the same process as other judges.
In the end it was a good night of fights, ring girls, Big Poppa Schnake and Josh Rafferty, minus his Mohawk, presenting the Oscar Jackson award.
