Porterville, Calif., Oct. 7 -- The Eagle Mountain Casino was once again packed with fight fans ready to see some brutal knockouts and vicious submissions, and that promise was delivered in the form of Gladiator Challenge 31: Knockout Nightmare. Over eight fighters withdrew due to injury at the last minute, and matchmaker Paul Zillius took it upon himself to make sure the card was still a crowd pleaser.
Thankfully, the event turned out very well. Among the carnage were eight TKOs, six submissions, and three decisions. The highlight of the night was an epic war between fan favorite
Andy Maccarone and late replacement
Cisco Lopez. The sellout crowd was very entertained, as was apparent by the deafening roars of approval throughout the night.
The main event saw Dustin "The Rooster" Arden unleash his wrath against Russian fighter
Yuriy Skoverko, resulting in a KO win at 1:43 into round one.
Skoverko, who apparently had a 4-0 record prior to this knockout loss, was overwhelmed early on after missing with a fancy flying kick. The Rooster unloaded with his trademark boxing flurries, dropping the Russian and continuing the assault on the ground. After referee
Herb Dean nearly got clocked trying to intervene, the fight was restarted standing.
Yuriy used this opportunity to try and take out the Rooster, but to no avail. Once the fighters started trading, Arden caught the Russian with a nice right cross, stunning him. After slamming Skoverko to the mat and kneeing him in the face on his way back up, Dustin finished the stunned Skoverko with another huge flurry. Although Dustin and Yuriy were not the originally scheduled main event, they certainly had a battle of main event proportions.
