Shamrock, Berry Weigh In for Cage Rage
Friday, March 07, 2008
by Jim Page (jpage@sherdog.com)

LONDON, March 7 -- A lean Ken Shamrock (Pictures) appeared very calm and confident Friday at the weigh-ins a day before his Cage Rage bout with Sunderland tough guy Robert "Buzz" Berry.

Asked if he was more nervous for his own fight or that of his son, Ryan, the MMA legend said he has not been nervous in the run up to a fight in a long time.

"I get excited when I'm at the arena and I hear the crowd," Shamrock said. "That's when I get excited. As for my son, I've been doing this a long time and I know what it is out there that you have to do and I'm very comfortable that he's going to do just fine. I'm not nervous one way or the other. When I get to the ring, I'm excited and I love to perform. That's why I'm still here."

As for why he moved back into the heavyweight division, Shamrock said that's where his best performances have taken place.

"I'm going in there to win," he said with a stern look. "I didn't come here to lose."

Berry was also in a buoyant mood, showing off his Cage Rage tattoos. He thanked Shamrock for the opportunity to fight him.

"It will be a pleasure to fight you," Berry said. "I'm not nervous one bit. I'm really looking forward to this fight."

Jean Silva (Pictures) also looked ready for his intriguing matchup with Masakazu Imanari (Pictures) in the chief supporting bout.

"I'm very happy to fight in Cage Rage," the Brazilian said. "It's like a second home to me. A fight for me is like a party. I don't care what happens."

Promoter Andy Geer also announced that the next main Cage Rage event would take place May 10 in the massive NEC arena in Birmingham -- an interesting move for the hitherto London-based promotion.

Paul Cahoon (Pictures) is set to headline the event. He'll defend his Cage Rage British light heavyweight title against Ian Freeman (Pictures), who once again comes out of retirement to take part in the long-anticipated bout.
