MOLINE, Ill., Feb. 16 — In the very cold and snowy Quad Cities area conditions for cutting weight on Thursday were not ideal. Most fighters competing on Friday’s King of the Cage card at The Mark of the Quad Cities made weight without having to run in the snow.
The main event fighters weighed-in with little problem. Jason Black (Pictures) came in at 167, three pounds under the limit, while his opponent Shonie Carter (Pictures) made 170 on the first try — something he has not done in his last couple of fights.
Jeff Curran (Pictures) walked into the weigh-ins with about 10 layers of sweaty clothes and stripped down to make 145 pounds. As far as his opponent, Charles Bennett (Pictures), he started off on the wrong foot.
First, “Krazy Horse” missed his flight. When he finally arrived it was 10 p.m., three hours after the weigh-ins began. He stepped on the scale at 156, which would be just right for the PRIDE veteran, but Friday’s fight is at bantamweight. Given time to shed the necessary weight, Bennett cut 10 pounds to make 146.
Besides Bennett, there were other no shows at the QC Zone, which hosted the weigh-ins. After failing to arrive on time, UFC veteran Terry Martin (Pictures) finally found his way to the scale later in the evening and the light heavyweight mark of 205 pounds. However there was still no word on either Gideon Ray (Pictures), who was caught in a snowstorm, or Bryan Zanders.
