UFC on Fox 24 Highlight Video: Watch Robert Whittaker Upset Jacare Souza
It was supposed to be more or less a stay-busy fight for No. 3-ranked middleweight Ronaldo Souza while he waited for his title shot.
Apparently nobody gave the memo to Robert Whittaker before the fight because the Aussie tossed an alligator-sized wrench into the machinery. Whittaker fended off the superb grappling prowess of “Jacare” in the first and then dropped the Brazilian with an overhand right behind the ear in the second.
Souza tried to clean out the cobwebs in his head, but “The Reaper” played it cool by systematically picking his woozy foe apart from a distance. Finally, a partially-blocked head kick wobbled “Jacare” again and, after a follow-up flurry of punches, Souza was covering up on the ground. Whittaker was relentless and teed off with punches until referee Mario Yamasaki intervened at 3:28 of the second, though it seemed a tad premature (online betting).
