In a pivotal matchup of veteran middleweights, most expected former UFC light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans to reinvent himself. “Suga” desperately needed a win to erase his two-fight losing streak, but 39-year old judoka Daniel Kelly had other plans.
Kelly out-struck Evans throughout their encounter, tagging him with an awkward left hook repeatedly, rocking the former champ a few times. Evans rallied late with a terrific exchange in the closing moments of the bout, but Kelly did just enough to eke out a split decision with scores of 29-28 (twice) and 28-29.
