DAVENPORT, Iowa, Sept. 22 Stepping on the scale Friday afternoon in front of a hometown crowd at a local Hooters restaurant, Pat Miletich (Pictures) easily made weight for his first mixed martial arts bout in over
four years.
The trainer of such fighters as Matt Hughes (Pictures), Tim Sylvia (Pictures) and Jens Pulver (Pictures) looked ready for his main event fight at The Mark of the Quad Cities, which sits just minutes from Miletich's famous gym, against Renzo Gracie (Pictures), who also had no problem making the 185-pound limit.
In team competition, only New York Pitbull middleweight Fabio Leopoldo (Pictures) and lightweight Marcio Feitosa, both coached by Gracie, came in over their respective limits. The Pitbulls, who challenge the Miletich-led Silverbacks for a second time, proceeded to make weight 185.5 for Leopoldo and 156 for Feitosa in the one-hour period afforded to fighters in their position.
In their IFL league debuts, Frank Shamrock (Pictures) watched as his San Jose Razorclaws each made weight in their first attempts. The Carlos Newton (Pictures)-led Toronto Dragons, who face Shamrock's squad, did the same.
