Spencer Fisher (Pictures) was on the fast track to a UFC lightweight title opportunity. However, a gutsy yet ill-fated decision to fight Canadian Sam Stout (Pictures) on short notice forced the Pat Miletich (Pictures)-trained 155-pounder to start from scratch.

Tonight at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, the hard-hitting southpaw fights Matt Wiman (Pictures), a man stepping up to the plate in the absence of Fisher's original foe, Leonard Garcia, who was injured in training last week.

Sherdog Insider spoke with Fisher as well as captured footage while the North Carolinian worked in Bettendorf, Iowa, to remove the bitter taste of defeat from his mouth.
