Had middleweight contender Sam Alvey not suffered a badly tattered leg in the opening round against Thales Leites, the outcome may have been different.
Leites slammed several powerful low kicks into “Smilin” Sam’s legs early and often, causing the American to limp badly. Leites scored a critical takedown in the second after landing some decent punches, but gave away the third when he cruised in the final frame.
Alvey charged hard to try and turn the tides completely, but time was his enemy and he wound up dropping a unanimous decision. The official scores were 29-28 across the board for Leites (bookmakers).
