Villasenor Treating 'Jacare' Like a Championship Fight
May 13, 2010
No one has been paying more attention to the steadily improving skills of Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza than Joey Villasenor. The longtime Greg Jackson fighter meets Jacare, a world-class caliber Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt, at Strikeforce "Heavy Artillery" this Saturday at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, Mo.
"He's gonna try and put me on my back and take me to his world and I'm going to try and keep it standing," said Viillasenor, who returns to the cage following an 11-month hiatus. "It's a classic matchup between grappler and striker, although I don't take his striking lightly."
Villasenor said Jacare's first-round victory over former UFC middleweight contender Matt Lindland in December offered some clues as to how the Villasenor will handle the crafty Brazilian in what he believes will be a "three-round war" on Saturday.
