Of all the fighters to be put under the microscope, Gina Carano could arguably be one of the most scrutinized.
Some believe her good looks are a distraction from what really matters, at a time when women’s MMA is just beginning to find its own legs beside its male counterpart.
Regardless, the 27-year-old Las Vegas native has to deal with the added attention -- both positive and not so pleasant –- and find a way for it not to affect her training and subsequent performances in a negative way.
In this exclusive interview, Carano describes why her place in the sport is both a blessing and a curse, and how she’s coming to terms with the pressure of being “the face of women’s MMA.”
Coaches Randy Couture, Scott Bieri and Chris Ben-Tchavtchavadze also hone in on the mental and physical tools that their student will carry into battle against the formidable Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos at Strikeforce “Carano vs. Cyborg” this Saturday.
