Infection Forces Niclas Larsen from Glory 29 Co-Headliner

Niclas “Destroyer” Larsen (490-7-1, 20 KOs) had to be pulled from his next fight, a co-headliner against fellow lightweight Mohammed El-Mir (113-21, 33 KOs) at Glory 29, the promotion announced early Friday. The Danish kickboxer suffered an infection and was medically forced to withdraw from his bout Saturday night in Copenhagen. Exact details of the infection were not released at the time of this posting.

Stepping up to fight “The Desert Storm” on a day’s notice will be reigning Glory featherweight champion Serhiy Adamchuk, who fought a month ago at Glory 28, where he defended his crown against Mosab Amrani via decision. Adamchuk (32-5, 14 KOs) is a surprise replacement considering his standing as a titleholder for the promotion, one that is a full weight class lighter.

“We hate to lose any fight from a card, especially this close to the event,” said Glory CEO Jon J Franklin. “But as far as creative solutions go, it doesn't get much better than giving the fans a reigning champion in his prime as replacement. Huge credit to Adamchuk, El-Mir, and our fantastic talent ops team for making it happen.”

Glory 29 is anchored by the welterweight championship bout between titlist Nieky Holzken (88-11, 46 KOs) as he defends his throne against Yoann Kongolo (61-6, 45 KOs). Holzken won the Glory Welterweight World Championship Tournament at Glory 13 and then captured the vacant welterweight title by stopping Raymond Daniels in Las Vegas at Glory 23. The Dutch star defended the title at Glory 26 by edging Murthel Groenhart via split decision.

The main card will also see a four-man one-night Heavyweight Contender Tournament unfold. Kirill Kornilov will oppose Jahfarr Wilnis in one of the bracket bouts while Ismail Londt will square off against Anderson “Braddock” Silva in the other.

The Glory 29 main card will be televised on ESPN3 at 4 p.m. ET/1 p.m. PT. The Glory 29 Super Fight Series airs immediately prior on UFC Fight Pass beginning at 1:30 p.m. ET/10:30 a.m. PT.
