Showtime Boxing Weigh-in Report: Deontay Wilder, Eric Molina 10 Pounds Apart

The crowd was raucous in support of its hometown fighter, reigning WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder during Friday’s weigh-in festivities. The Bartow Arena in Birmingham, Ala., was bustling in anticipation for their local hero to climb aboard the scale for what will be his first title defense.

Luckily for “The Bronze Bomber” and his fans, being a heavyweight typically doesn’t mean killing oneself to make a certain weight, but the 6’7” hulk still looked as fit and trim as ever. Wilder (33-0, 32 KOs) officially tipped the scale at 229 and looked in tremendous shape.

Before he walked up onstage to make the fight official, though, his challenger had to weigh in. Eric Molina (23-2, 17 KOs), a heavy underdog from Texas, clocked in 10 pounds heavier; his official weight was 239.25.

The two giants stood face-to-face afterward, the first true sense of seriousness and friction between the two. Both men looked beyond pumped for tomorrow’s action, both promised victory.

In the Showtime-televised co-feature, Jose Pedraza (19-0, 12 KOs) weighed in at 129.75 for the vacant IBF super featherweight title. His opponent, Andrey Klimov (19-1, nine KOs) nailed weight at 129.
