Swanson Reflects on Having His Jaw Wired Shut

Cub Swanson, on “The Savage Dog Show,” discussing what it was like to have his jaw wired shut for six weeks:

“It was pretty terrible. I feel like I handled it well. I never let myself freak out. I think that was the biggest thing. It’s funny because it’s always people that put that pressure on you. They’re like, ‘Oh man, you must be feeling terrible right now,’ and I’m like, ‘No, I’m cool. Leave me alone. Don’t try to put me in a bad mood or freak me out that my jaw’s wired. I’m dealing with it.’ But it sucked. I tried to grind up some tacos once, and it didn’t go so well. After that I just stuck with protein shakes. … The taco meat wouldn’t go through my teeth. It wouldn’t grind up enough. It sucked because I would try to drink and then I would suffocate on all the food just getting bunched up in my teeth and then I’d have to lean over the sink and then try to spit it out and then try again. It was just miserable.”
